Spanish/English BILINGUAL session

This session can be found under "2027 Trending Topics" in the Education Program Schedule.

Technical failures in concrete projects are often caused not by design errors, but by human behavior, communication breakdowns, poor leadership, unrealistic schedules, and decision-making under pressure. This course examines the psychological and organizational factors behind concrete project failures and provides practical tools to improve teamwork, execution, and project culture.

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify the main causes of concrete failures and distinguish between problems originating from design, materials, construction, supervision, use, and environmental conditions
2. Recognize how human errors, working conditions, and organizational factors—such as production pressure, fatigue, poor communication, inadequate procedures, and insufficient supervision—can turn a seemingly small deviation into a significant failure
3. Apply root cause analysis tools, like the 5 Whys and the Swiss Cheese model, to investigate a failure without being limited to identifying who performed the last visible action
4. Develop leadership and site control strategies that allow early detection of problems, improve communication, create conditions for staff to work correctly, and prevent failures from recurring
